JENNY RANDLES

Future plans for Oz factor books

I was born at Stacksteads near Bacup, just across the moors from where the events in Alan Godfrey’s book took place. It was those years spent in my Pennine ‘home’ that got me fascnated by the UFOs being seen locally.

After moving to Manchester I joined the UFO research team in the city involved in the story of his book and by 1981 was honoured to be asked to run the national investigation network for the next 13 years on behalf of BUFORA - the British UFO Research Association.

Over the years I have been fortunate to do many interesting things – such as write material for an alien theme park ride at the Granada Studio Tours complex in Manchester and to  give briefings on the UFO mystery to many places around the world. I travelled to MIT near Boston, a casino on the Australian Gold Coast and was one of the first westerners to speak in Hungary after the fall of Communism.  I was invited to lecture at universities, RAF bases, Jodrell Bank planetarium and – just days after Alan Godfey’s encounter – to brief members of the Lords and Commons in the palace of Westminster.

In the past 40 years I have also written and presented several radio and TV documentaries for the BBC and served as Story Consultant and wrote the associated books for the hit ITV series Strange But True? Between 1994 and 1997 this series achieved up to 12 million viewers.

I had always loved writing and edited the Northern UFO News newsletter between 1975 and 2001. This magazine covered many strange cases, promoted events and traced the UFO mystery as it waxed and waned in popular imagination over the north during those 26 years.

My first book was published by Robert Hale in 1979, co-authored with Peter Warrington from the Manchester group. UFOs: A British Viewpoint was followed by 49 further titles - some of them with fellow member Peter Hough - on topics ranging from the folklore of the Isle of Man to spontaneous human combustion , the psychic experiences of soap opera stars,  crop circles and psychic detectives.

Breaking the time barrier – my most recent book – was about the race by physicists to build a time machine and was published in 2004 by the Paraview imprint of Simon and Schuster in the US. It is one of several of my books still in print.

As that was published I took a 13 year break due to family circumstances and I became a full time carer. I had to cease giving talks or doing media appearances but never lost touch with these fascinating phenomena and have continued to write a monthly column for the quirky newsstand magazine, Fortean Times. This cult favourite has a unique perspective on true life oddities and has inspired many imaginative writers well known to British audiences over the past few decades.

However, I always intended to return to writing books one day. That day is here.

Oz factor books is not a publishing company in the old fashioned sense and likely never will be.  Alan Godfrey is publishing and selling this book himself and I just helped him to achieve that ambition of getting it out in readable form. So Oz factor books and this website are simply helping to promote it for him, partly because it includes my first serious UFO writing in book form for many years, but mostly because I believe in his sincerity and felt that he deserved any help I could offer to get this book out there so that you can read it.

However, this project is only the start. There are big plans for 2018  going forward that are still developing.  Initially I will add occasional new features to this site – such as competitions, quizzes, and will be giving prizes and offering the odd special deal. So bookmark  it and check back when you feel like it. I will try to retain any items so that you can catch up.

I have also started a free revival of Northern UFO News in these pages - where I will comment on events, report sightings and more.  The current issue is the last page on the menu above. Just click on Northern UFO News and check it out in the first week of every month for a new edition.

There will be new books coming from me as well – though. That is certainly the plan and they should start to arrive during the first half of next year. Stay tuned to these pages for more about that when I can update you with details.

Meantime, if you have a story involving UFOs or any kind of strange phenomenon that – like Alan Godfrey – you have always wished you could write up and tell the world about but have not been sure how  to go through this daunting process to do so - then I will try to offer advice and guidance.

No promises that I will be then able to promote it for you on this site as we will still be looking for interesting new things and integrity when deciding what to put on these pages –  but I will at least try my best to offer some thoughts on how you can progress your treasured project even if it is not quite right to be featured on this site.  Though if it is right - then it could be our next star book.

If you simply want to try to tell your story in a way that you can leave as a legacy for your grandchildren, that is a laudable aim. It was one of Alan Godfrey's main reasons for sticking with it and seeking advice.  Hopefully this site will make that possible for others and grow into a record of people's own first hand stories of what happens in this world for which there is no obvious explanation.

So, whatever you want to say, just get in touch and say it and we can  try to take it from there.  Even if you just want others to hear what happened to you in a short account on these pages to get it off your chest.

In the meantime I hope that you will enjoy Who or What Were They?
